The Christian life is often approached primarily in terms of what believers should do. The New Testament begins somewhere deeper: with what God has already done and who the believer has become because of union with Christ.
To be "in Christ" is not merely to adopt a new set of beliefs or practices. Scripture describes a profound change of position and identity. Those who have trusted Christ are justified, reconciled, redeemed, adopted, made alive with Christ, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and brought into a new relationship with God.
This study examines those biblical realities and asks a practical question: What changes when a believer begins to live from what God says is already true?

The World of the Study
One of the most important expressions in Paul's letters is also one of the easiest to read past: "in Christ." Paul repeatedly describes believers not simply as people who believe certain things about Christ, but as people whose lives have become identified with Him.
This new identity reaches backward to the cross and resurrection and forward into everyday Christian life. The believer has died with Christ, been raised with Christ, and now walks in newness of life. Salvation therefore involves more than forgiveness of individual sins. It establishes an entirely new relationship to God, Sin, Death, condemnation, and the life to come.
Christian discipleship begins to change when obedience is understood not as an attempt to earn a position before God, but as the outworking of a position God has already graciously given.
